Jimi Hendrix- Star Spangled Banner

I grew up in a small mountain valley town in New Mexico that was populated half by hispanic farmers and their families and half by hippy commune disciples; the latter being what brought my parents to live there. Every 4th of July there would be a huge barbeque party with tons of beer, homegrown pot, a live rock band and big fireworks bought on the indian reservation.

One 4th, in the middle of the day, one of the hippies must have decided to haul all of his amps out of the house and put them on full blast because the sounds of Hendrix’s Star Spangled banner came reverberating across the valley for everyone to enjoy. And that is how I was introduced to the remarkable Jimi Hendrix.

My attraction to him is inversely proportional to his level of availability.

(via hautelikecouture)

I’ve noticed this is often true in relationships. If a guy seems only mildly interested in me I find myself more attracted than I would be, and vice-versa. If a guy is intensely into me I wonder if he doesn’t have a life or what is wrong with him that he finds me so amazing. Not that I’m not amazing, I just think people need priorities.

I had a boyfriend who called me so often it drove me insane. He’d call to let me know he was going to the grocery store, or to tell me he got a haircut, and so on. After asking in vain for him to chill out, I decided to reverse psychomalologize him and started calling him constantly to see if he backed off. It worked, to a point. He called less and seemed less obsessed, but as soon as I stopped he started again.

An interesting clip from the Colbert Report regarding what my physiology professor referred to as the “ongoing feminization of males”. According to some scientists, since the inception of birth control in the 50s we have seen an increase men displaying female traits and also a weight increase in the general population. Some attribute this to the fact that our water tables now carry estrogen, which after consumption in the form of a birth control pill, is peed into the water system. Lovely connection right?

Anyway, this interview discusses how the increase in estrogen has effected male fish in the water, mainly in that it’s causing them to produce eggs! I don’t know if this theory is correct but it is an interesting idea.
